These three players showed in Week 5 that their teams need to consider making a change to their depth chart.

NFL fans know the offense goes as far as a quarterback can take them. Without a good midfielder, the leadership of the offensive teams is disrupted, and this means that defenses spend significantly more time on the field.

In the fifth week of the 2022 season, quarterbacks like Josh Allen showed why he’s one of the best players in his position and why the Buffalo Bills are favorites to win the Super Bowl. As for these three players, they showed that their teams needed to make some changes to their positional depth charts.

Baker Mayfield

QB Carolina Panthers

Carolina Panthers are in shambles. This is evidenced by their 1-3 record early in the season entering Week 5. Baker Mayfield did not provide the spark that coach Matt Ruhl envisioned after they acquired him last summer.

It was up to Mayfield to help lead the Panthers to victory. Unfortunately for Mayfield, he had to play for the San Francisco 49ers and their impressive defense.

Dropping 10-3 to 49 players shortly before the break, Mayfield made Carolina’s position work too much before the break, throwing a interception for Emmanuel Mosley, and returning him for 43 yards for a touchdown. Just like that, Carolina’s deficit grew to 17-3.

It was a poor performance by Mayfield and the Panthers.

Mayfield completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 215 yards while making one interception. He was also fired four times for a 16-yard loss.

There may be more changes happening in Carolina other than the quarterback position.
